The Message in the Bottle Essay Questions

Essay Questions

  1. 1

What is the motif of the author’s questions throughout the text?

The reader realizes that most of the author's questions are unanswered. The author is concerned about the unbecoming behavior of the man in the contemporary world. Man has decided to embrace bad things instead of good. The author has made up his mind to investigate why man has a strange behavior despite having a peculiar language gift. Man can communicate effectively with fellow human beings and control all other creatures. Unfortunately, the author fails to comprehend why modern man behaves like a beast. The author argues that man should come to earth from a different planet like mars for the first time and start afresh.

  2. 2

What makes the contemporary man live like a beast in total disregard for fellow human beings' welfare?

In the 20th century, the man was fully consumed with contemporary ideologies that disregard humanity's welfare. People believe in technology to solve every problem affecting the world. The author argues that technology is suitable for human development, but it cannot decrypt the real issues such as harmony and peaceful coexistence. The ancient religious ideologies that fostered peace, love, and unity have little space in the 20th-century people's minds. Technology has led to the development of weapons that man wants to test against his fellow humans. The modern global conflicts such as war are a result of misuse of technology. Therefore, people are self-centered and want to prove to others that they are superior.

  3. 3

Why does the author think that the end of the world is near?

The survival of man and the existence of the world is reliant on man's behavior. According to the author, man is becoming malevolent every day because he disregards the welfare of others. Man's mind is full of self-hate and self-interest. The technology that is supposed to benefit man is working against the existence of man. Technology is right, but man is using it to destroy himself. For instance, global conflicts are fueled by self-interest, and countries are testing the power of their modernized weapons. Therefore, the world will not go far if a man does not change his behavior. Self-destruction will take center-stage, and in no time, the world will come to an end.
