Why does Slender think it is good that Caius and Sir Hugh don't fight? What does this tell us about Slender, and what does it tell us about Caius and Sir Hugh?
Slender thinks it is good that Caius and Sir Hugh don't fight because they are a doctor and a clergyman, respectively, and both these jobs, according to Slender, should preclude them from engaging in duels. This shows us two things about Slender: 1) that he is sensitive to pain and suffering and 2) that he equates meekness with virtue. While this could be considered good qualities, the play seems to tie these qualities to his inability to woo Anne, as he is awkward and stilted around her.
