The Map of Love Themes

Love

It goes without saying that the leading theme of the book is Love. The story of Anna shows us that, no matter what, we should follow our heart and be with the person we love. Any political situation, danger, difference in nationalities and other odds can’t stop us if we have sincere feelings. The author also teaches us that to love means to care, to support, to encourage, to embrace and to be there for the beloved every time, regardless of everything.

War

Throughout the whole story, we witness a lingering war between Egypt and Britain. First, the husband of Anna had fought in that war and when he came back home he was a totally different person; he became cold and indifferent, couldn’t love and feel any warmth toward Anna and toward anybody else. So, the author wanted to depict that war is an awful thing: it can’t bring anything positive, and it just destroys everything we have and takes from us everybody we value the most.

Happiness

Anna’s destiny wasn’t kind to her, and she had to overcome many horrible things. However, she doesn’t give up and tries to attain happiness with her own efforts. She decides to go abroad, to the country she has always wanted to see, despite the complicated and dangerous condition between her motherland and Egypt. Later, she realizes that all that risk she took paid off, as far as she met there the love of her life, Sharif, and then she gave birth to her long-awaited and lovely child Nur. This situation shows us that we should have the courage to achieve what we want and thus become happy.
