The Man Who Wore His Wife’s Sarong was published in 2017. It is written by Suchen Christine Lim who is a Singaporean writer. This is a book which talks about the prejudice, tension and taboos in Singapore. Lim has won the Singapore Literature Prize for The Man Who Wore His Wife’s Sarong.
Lim's storytelling follows several characters as they reveal the people around them’s secrets and deal with the challenges that comes with it with it. In the book we met a mother who finds out that her son is gay, as well as a child who has challenges dealing with the fact that her two mothers are lesbian. We also meet a struggling woman who is trying to find the money to save her son who is HIV-positive. We meet a father that is interested in a Filipino maid, actually his daughter’s Filipino maid, as well as a prostitute and a private-eye. Last, but definitely not least, we meet a girl who finds her uncle’s body dressed in his wife’s sarung kebaya.
