    Through what instances do we learn about Japanese-American relations in the first three chapters of the novel?

    There are several instances which relate the presence of Japanese supremacy within the social structure of the P.S.A.. These include Childan's behavior towards Tagomi, his reflection that a Japanese woman does not usually marry a white man (rather it is the other way around) and his mentions of the elite status of the Japanese.
