Giovanna
Giovanna is the story's protagonist. At the story's beginning, Giovanna is a young girl aged 13. Giovanna is attentive and wants to know everything happening around her. One day, Giovanna overhears her father having a conversation with her mother, Nella, and the talk is about Giovanna's ugliness. Giovanna eavesdrops on her father, saying she is ugly and looks like her aunt, Vittoria.
When Giovanna meets with Aunt Vittoria, she discovers she is a good woman despite her father's hatred for her. Giovanna and Vittoria form a good friendship though it does not last for long. Giovanna starts investigating her parents and realizes they are promiscuous because they all have extramarital affairs. After maturing, Giovanna starts having multiple sexual affairs with different boys. Giovanna grows up knowing that adults are liars and is not ashamed of her multiple sexual affairs.
Andrea
Andrea is Giovanna's father. Andrea's personality in the novel symbolizes deception because he is untrustworthy. Giovanna loves her father unconditionally until she discovers he hates her. In addition, Andrea is a promiscuous man who cheats on his wife with multiple women.
Nella
Nella is Andrea's wife and Giovanna's mother. Nella is also dishonest because she is not loyal in her marriage. During her secretive investigations, Giovanna discovers that her mother is having a secretive affair with her husband's best friend, Mariano.
Aunt Vittoria
Vittoria is Andrea's sister and Giovanna's aunt. The first day Andrea overhears her father saying she is ugly like Vittoria, she decides to look for her and confirm her physical appearance. However, Giovanna realizes that Vittoria is a lovely woman who is kindhearted and caring.
Mariano
Mariano is Cosntanza's husband and Andrea's best friend. Mariano is unfaithful in his marriage because he has a secretive love affair with Nella, Andrea's wife.
Costanza
Constanza is Andrea’s secretive lover. She is also the mother to Angela and Ida. When Costanza gives birth, Andrea gives her a bracelet meant for Giovanna. Giovanna discovers the truth about the bracelet when she first interacts with Aunt Vittoria.
Rosario
Rosario is a rude boy who dates Giovanna. When Rosario takes Giovanna's virginity, he gets disappointed because he does not enjoy anything. However, Giovanna enjoys every moment of intercourse because losing her virginity is important in her transition to womanhood.
Roberto
Roberto is Giuliana's boy boyfriend. When Giuliana brings Giovanna with her during one of the visits, Roberto gets attracted to her. Roberto starts seeing Giovanna secretly, and he ends up inviting her for a sleepover without the knowledge of Giuliana.
Giuliana
Giuliana is Roberto's girlfriend and a close friend of Giovanna. Giuliana is the beneficiary of the bracelet meant for Giovanna during her birth. After Giovanna discovers that Giuliana has the bracelet, she decides to revenge by having a sexual relationship with Roberto.
