The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum Imagery

The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum Imagery

Anonymous threat-letters and calls

There is no need to look into mailbox too often. There are not many events which can make other people bother themselves writing a letter. Unfortunately, Katharina Blum’s case so excites other people that her mailbox is “full to overflowing and in a manner far from delighting Katarina”. Even if one can stuff horrible letters into a bag, he/she can’t deal with anonymous calls. One can hardly argue that the words “you filthy bitch, you filthy cowardly bitch” are rather offensive. The image of anonymous threats shows how unproved information published in the press may cause a real witch hunt.

The Carnival

The carnival is a wonderful occasion which allows people to disguise their true selves under a mask of whoever they want. Women “dressed as an Andalusian” and men “dressed as a sheikh”, “celebrating city” and “Carnival crowds” are a nice view to have a look at. When it is a matter of “spirit and business” even deaths should not interfere.

One-side love

It seems that Katharina Blum possesses an ability to charm men easily. The only problem is that she doesn’t want it, because she has a kind heart. However, the power of her charm is impressive. Huber Blorna who is “a genial, broad-minded man, who loves life, travel, luxury, neglects himself so seriously that he emits the body odor”. When Sträubleder expresses his affection in a rather obvious way, trying “if not exactly to seduce her, certainly to make pass at her” and feeling “insulted because she had not found him irresistible”, Blorna is simply happy with “holding hands”.
