Addie LaRue
Addie LaRue is the main protagonist of the novel. Born at the beginning of the 18th century in France, she makes a deal with the devil to escape an arranged marriage that leaves her immortal and invisible to people. They retain no memory of her once she's out of sight. In the present time, in New York, Addie discovers the biggest loophole in the pact in the form of a young man called Henry.
Luc (the Devil)
The representation of the devil in the novel is somewhat ambiguous. He is described as darkness itself, as a god that answers after dark, and can take any desired form. The devil is personified/humanized in the form of Luc, a man of Addie's dreams, that slowly starts falling and caring for her in the form of possessiveness as the time passes.
Henry Strauss
Henry Strauss is the male protagonist and Addie's love interest in the novel. Depressed after a difficult breakup, he decides to end his life, but Luc gives him a chance to live a life loved by everyone for a year. He is the only one who can remember Addie and they form a relationship.
