The Indian in the Cupboard Summary

The Indian in the Cupboard Summary

Omri and Patrick are best friends who often play games together. For Omri's birthday, Patrick gives Omri a toy Indian and his brother Gillon also makes a present of a cupboard. Omri's grandmother has passed down to him a magical key to the cupboard, which makes any figure in the wardrobe come alive.

Omri places the toy Indian in the cupboard, and in the morning he finds that it has come alive. The toy reveals his name to be Little Bear. Omri is initially shocked, but goes on to become good friends with Little Bear and even finds him a miniature horse to ride on.

However, Patrick finds out about the magic cupboard and brings a toy cowboy called Boone. Boone and Little Bear end up in a fight due to the antagonistic history of cowboys and Indians. Little Bear shoots Boone with an arrow, thereby injuring him. Fortunately, Omri makes a medical soldier toy come alive to treat Boone and Boone recovers.

Little Bear then requests that Omri find him a bride. Omri finds him a female called Bright Stars. However, Little Bear and Boone later agree that the best thing for them is to turn back to toys again; Omri gives up the wardrobe and key to avoid the temptation of bringing them back to life again.
