What does Aerin learn from the book that she finds?
When Aerin finds the book of history, she finds a recipe for kenet, a potion that provides a defense to fire damage. This discovery impacts the plot, as Aerin works hard to learn the recipe and becomes a dragon slayer. Interestingly, Aerin also learns about dragons in this book, discovering that they used to be a lot bigger than they are now.

What is the hero's crown?
The hero's crown is a relic that allegedly has magical powers. Arlbeth discovers that the enemy has possession of this crown, and therefore must reclaim it. Later in the text, Aerin discovers that her uncle Agsded has the crown; she wins the battle and is awarded the relic as a symbol of her bravery and strength.
