Challenging Behaviors and the Audience 10th Grade
We emotionally respond to a text as it has been intentionally set up to manipulate the audience into behaving and thinking in a particular manner. The Help is a historical fiction film set during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement and outlines devastating issues of inequality that are still happening today. It specialises in displaying the inequality of the sexes, the isolation between different social classes and most importantly, the racism and segregation of African Americans. Throughout the film, we see three significant figures, Skeeter, Celia and Aibileen, who promote powerful behaviours which furthermore establishes a strong connection between the audience and the three characters. The text purposely uses SWAT (Sound, Written, Audio, Technical) techniques to construct certain behaviours of power, acceptance and faith that not only inspires but influences a change in thought among the audience.
The success and power of another inspire power within oneself to pursue and conquer what is possible.
