Robert Redford
Robert Redford plays the enigmatic and captivating Jay Gatsby. He was not the initial choice for the role; producers had originally wanted Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, and Steve McQueen. Redford got his start in theater, before transitioning into television, and then films, starring in such classics as War Hunt, The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Candidate, The Way We Were, The Sting, All the President's Men, A River Runs Through it, and Out of Africa. He is also a director and producer, and founded the ski area in Utah "Sundance," where he began a widely acclaimed independent film festival, which has spawned many other organizations. He won Best Director for his film Ordinary People in 1980.
Mia Farrow
Mia Farrow plays Daisy Buchanan, the object of Gatsby's affections. Farrow got her start as an actress on the soap opera Peyton Place, before transitioning into film work. Her breakout role was as Rosemary in Rosemary's Baby in 1968, a performance which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Other films include The Great Gatsby, Death on the Nile, and many collaborations with Woody Allen, to whom she was married.
Bruce Dern
Tom Buchanan is played by Bruce Dern. Dern made a name for himself playing evil characters. His films include Coming Home, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, The Cowboys, Black Sunday, Monster, The Hateful Eight, and Nebraska, for which he was again nominated for an Academy Award.
Sam Waterston
Sam Waterston is perhaps best known for his longstanding role on the NBC series Law and Order, which earned him a Golden Globe. After starting in Shakespearean roles in New York, he began appearing in films such as Savages, The Great Gatsby, Mindwalk, The Man in the Moon, Serial Mom, Hannah and Her Sisters, Interiors, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and The Killing Fields, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

After getting her start as a model, Chiles began acting in films. She appeared with Gatsby costars Robert Redford in The Way We Were and Mia Farrow in Death on the Nile.
