The Good Nurse Background

The Good Nurse Background

The Good Nurse is a novel by Charles Graeber, published in 2013.

Experts have concluded that Charles Cullen, the subject of Charles Graeber's exposé The Good Nurse, likely killed over 400 people, making him the most prolific - yet least-known - serial killer of all time. In his book The Good Nurse, Graeber traces Cullen's behavior from his childhood to his December 2003 arrest and sentencings thereafter. In his book, Graeber describes a seemingly perfect man: Cullen was an intelligent man, a celebrated nurse, a doting husband and father, and somebody who was loved by mostly everyone he came into contact with. His only problem: Cullen was a serial killer - a complex but evil man who was excited by the chance to kill one of his helpless patients. Not only is The Good Nurse a look into the psyche of a serial killer who works in the medical field, but it is also a searing portrait of the medical field itself, as well as the people who choose careers in the medical field.

A film of the same name, starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, is set to be released by streaming giant Netflix in late 2022 after a premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022. Netflix won the worldwide distribution rights to the film (essentially, the right to release the film) for a staggering $25 million, indicating that they felt strongly about the film's source material.
