The Forest of Hands and Teeth is American author Carrie Ryan's breakout novel. It is a young adult fiction novel set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future in which zombies roam the earth and threaten those who are still human.

The novel follows the adventures of a girl named Mary who must confront the world beyond her comfort zone when the town she lives in is broken into by a zombie horde. The novel is the first part of a trilogy and received its first edition publishing by Random House in the United States in 2009. The novel is followed by The Dead-Tossed Waves and The Dark and Hollow Places.

Ryan's text was very well received by critics and its target audience alike. It also became a New York Times bestseller and was nominated for numerous book awards. There has been no news on a movie adaptation set to be directed by Kate Maberly since 2016.
