Maurice Bendrix
Maurice Bendrix is a successful writer and a suspicious jealous man. Maurice does not know how to love at all, he is an egoist. He does not need lovel he just wants the whole world revolving around him. In his relationship with Sarah, there is no love and no hatred – only the pleasure of owning someone, which is replaced by age, when his exhilaration is suddenly interrupted roughly and without warning.
Henry Miles
Henry Miles is Sarah’s husband, a boring official, who ignores many important things. He is a rather calm, phlegmatic and boring person. When he learns that Sarah is cheating on him, he does not feel jealous. This man is weak.
Sarah Miles
Sarah Miles is a bored wife of the average official, who hates the smell of onions. Sarah turns out to be a controversial character. According to Maurice’s words, she is attracted by her kindness, sincerity and patience right up until the moment, when her diary appears in the plot of the novel. She is weak, because she constantly solves her problems in the most painful way, hurting everyone.
Mr. Parkis
Mr. Parkis is a detective, who is hired by Maurice to find out if Sarah is cheating on him. Despite the fact that Mr. Parkis is a bit of a clumsy detective, he manages to follow Sarah and be attentive to every detail.
