To say that men can be bullheaded would be insulting to the bull.

Lady Whistledown, "The Duke and I"

The gossip paper that comes out often and stirs the pot of the English noble society is signed by a certain Lady Whistledown. It is clear that is an alias of someone close to the Bridgertons as it contains references to private events. Lady Whistledown serves as a sarcastic commentary on the events that happen in the novel, providing comedic relief, and it could even be said to be the author’s direct voice in the novel.

I knew nothing but love and devotion while I was growing up. Trust me, it makes everything easier.

Daphne, "The Duke and I"

Upon discovering Simon’s gravely kept secret about his childhood and struggle he had to overcome with his stutter, alone, without the help of his father, who was his only family, Daphne tries to convince him that he doesn’t have to live his life like his father, that he mustn’t blame himself for being abandoned by him. She wants to convince him that it was he who overcame the stutter, his strength was the reason for it, and not the anger towards his father.

Don’t you worry, my little man. I shall love you always. I’ll teach you your letters and your numbers, and how to sit on a horse.

Simon, "The Duke and I"

The novel has a heartfelt ending, with Simon finally overcoming the ghost of his father and shedding the burden of anger and disappointment. He decides to be the owner of his life, and not make the same mistakes his father did towards his children. Simon’s father was obsessed with getting an heir, that he never perceived Simon as a son in need of his father’s affection and guidance.
