The River

The river is a symbol of courage. Kofi spends most of his time in the river swimming. According to the author, the river is Kofi's home because whenever he is swimming, he gains courage and determination to face his challenges. One of the biggest obstacles that Kofi wants to get over is his bullying cousin. Everyone loves Kofi except his cousin. Therefore, in the coming swimming competition against his cousin, Kofi wants to emerge as the winner and teach his cousin a tough lesson.

The death of Prince Yaw Boateng

The death of Prince Yaw Boateng is a symbol of misfortune in Kofi's family. Kofi's brother, Kwasi, during the wrestling competition, is appointed to represent his village against the village rival. Unintentionally, Kwasi kills the Prince, which marks the eternal conflict between Kofi's family and the king. The king retaliates, forcing Kofi and his family to run away from the village, which makes life unbearable.

The king's festival is a symbol of cultural preservation. Kofi has always observed his people organizing the wrestling competition annually. The festival is significant, and all people wait for it patiently because it helps them to preserve their identity. Kofi's brother is selected to represent his village against the rival village in the coming wrestling competition.
