Do you think Aunt Eva knew that Hannah was Chaya? Why or why not?
The novel makes it seem that Aunt Eva knew Hannah was Chaya, though it never says so explicitly. The first clue is that Aunt Eva doesn’t question how Hannah knew the details of her number (and other details, like how Grandpa Will carried Fayge to the gas chambers). However, there are other clues, some more subtle. At a certain point in her life, Aunt Eva likely realized that what Chaya was saying in the camp was accurate, not a dream or hallucination like she’d originally thought.
