Friendship Across the Cultural Divide: Peaceful Interpersonal Interactions in The Deerslayer College
At any point in time, the world has been filled with people who are vastly different from each other. While these differences may at times feel insurmountable, they do not have to be points of division for humanity. Humanity can instead choose to view these differences as things that should be acknowledged and accepted in the name of lasting global peace. By actively making the decision to celebrate and cherish these differences, nations and the people that comprise them can form relationships that will allow them to create more peaceful connections across the globe. Though not specifically focused on relationships that feature cultural differences, sociologist Johan Galtung’s article Violence, Peace, and Peace Research looks at the interconnectedness between violence and peace. He notes that “[i]n all [...] systems there is interaction and where there is interaction, value is somehow exchanged” (176). These systems that Galtung focuses on mirror relationships of all forms.
