The Brass Verdict Background

The Brass Verdict Background

Author Michael Connelly is responsible for some of the most popular contemporary characters. He created the character of detective Harry Bosch and defense attorney Mickey Haller (among a number of other characters), both of whom are the main characters in The Brass Verdict (released in 2008).

The novel follows Haller who, two years after he stopped practicing law due to a drug addiction, has kicked his habit and starts to take cases again after his dear friend Jerry Vincent is killed and leaves Haller his law practice. Haller, however, doesn't have time to settle back into the law, as he inherits the defense of a man called Walter Elliot. Meanwhile, Harry Bosch investigates Mr. Vincent's murder and is not opposed to using Haller, who fears that Vincent's killer may be going after him next, as bait. Ultimately, Haller and Bosch discover that they have no choice but to work with each other to find Mr. Vincent's killer and ensure that Walter Elliot is acquitted.

The Brass Verdict served as the basis for the first season of Netflix's hit T.V. series The Lincoln Lawyer (a book of the same name introduced readers to the Haller character in 2005). The television series, like The Brass Verdict, received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
