The meeting in the courtroom
Keith’s family and Hugh’s family have known each other for decades and they live in a similar neighborhood. Keith and Hugh are great childhood friends who share almost everything except careers. The main paradox is that the two families never thought that they might find themselves at a courtroom facing each other. Unfortunately, the situation comes when Hugh’s family is brought to face justice in court and Keith’s father is the one prosecuting them. Keith’s father finds himself in a tough situation in the courtroom, but he does the right thing and delivers justice to the people of Biloxi.
Hugh’s career option
Hugh has a choice of choosing to pursue his studies or join his father's business. Since Hugh and Keith share a lot, readers believe that he will choose to pursue education and work alongside his friend Keith to stabilize their coastal town that is controlled by criminals. Ironically, Hugh chooses his father's business and an easy way of getting rich. However, the criminal life is dangerous, and Hugh regrets his decision.
Boloxi’s citizens
There is a paradox in the way the citizens of Biloxi behave. Since they are used to insecurity, the majority have accepted insecurity as a way of life and they are always ready to cooperate with the gangs whenever they come across them. The contrast is that the gangs, especially gang leaders, have become rich and influential at the expense of poor citizens who assume that they have no choice but to surrender their money to criminal gangs. The reader expects the residents of Biloxi to unite and support Keith’s father's efforts to wipe out crime and bring law and order. Ironically, Keith’s father fights this negative presence alone, and it will take a long time before order is restored.
