Why does Taran decide to look for the Hen Wen?
The Hen Wen was important for the Caer Dallben and the all the people that lived there. She was owned by Coll Son of Collfrewr, and she was a special type of pig. She had the ability to tell the future and reveal hidden secrets. Everyone in the world of The Book of Three wants Hen for her abilities, including the evil Horned King. Taran not just wanted to find the Hen Wen in order to get answers for his questions, he also wanted to save his Kingdom.

How did Prince Gwydion survive after the castle collapsed?
Prince Gwydion, Taran and Eilonwy were all captured and kept as prisoners by the evil enchantress Achren. When Taran and Eilonwy escaped, they stole an ancient magical sword that held up the caste, and as they exited the castle, it collapsed. When this happens, the reader assumes that Prince Gwydion still was in the castle and died from the weight. It is revealed later, as Gwydion reappears, that he didn’t die. He was taken to another castle to be tortured, where he managed to escape. Therefore, he didn’t die, and came just in time to save the people of Caer Dallben.

How is Eilonwy connected to the evil enchantress Achren?
Princess Eilonwy is the daughter of Angharad and is kind hearted and talkative. She has magical abilities and was kept as a captive by her “aunt” Achren. Achren wants to keep and teach Eilonwy because of her abilities and hopes that she will grow up and become a powerful asset that can be used by her, as well as being her protégé in the distant future.
