Agnès
Agnès is a beautiful thirteen-year-old girl living in postwar France. She is the narrator of the novel. Acting as the sole author of Fabienne's novel, Agnès is invited all around the world to promote the book. She eventually leaves her hometown to attend a prestigious school.
Jean
Jean is Agnès older brother. After the war, he is released from a German labor camp. Unfortunately, Jean falls extremely sick and is bedridden.
M. Devaux
Devaux is the town's postmaster who helps Fabienne and Agnès publish their novel.
