    Do you think Aeneas is virtuous for leaving Dido? Why or why not?

    Regardless of what they think of Aeneas's treatment of Dido or of how sympathetic they find his character, the teacher should remind students to consider what is meant by "virtuous" in the context of The Aeneid. Aeneas may be considered "virtuous" in the sense that he is fulfilling the dictates of faith and trying to protect his people, but doing these things nevertheless leads him to depart from Dido's side.
