Chapter 2 - Motion Along a Straight Line - Problems - Exercises - Page 60: 2.32

Answer

(a) The diagram has been attached. (b)The car A and B are at the same position (c) The graph has been attached . (d) car A and B have the same velocity. (e) car A passes Car B ,when time(t)=3s (f)car B passes Car A ,when time(t)=1s

Work Step by Step

Solution : (a) The figure attached represents the motion of two cars along the x-axis. The second diagram represents the motion of both the cars (i.e Car A and Car B) (b) Car A and car B will be in the same position at the given time when the x-t graph of both of the cars intersects each other. At the time t=1s and t=3s, both of the cars will be at the same place. (c) The diagram represents the velocity versus time graph of both cars. (d) The car A and car B will have the same velocity when there is a displacement (x)-time (to graphs has the same slope. This will occur approximately when time(t)=2s. (e) The car A will pass the car B when the displacement of the curve of car A,$x_{A}$ moves above the displacement curve of car B,$x_{S}$ in the x-t graph. This will happen when time t=3s (f) The car B will pass the car A when the displacement of the curve of car B,$x_{B}$ moves above the displacement curve of car ,$x_{A}$ in the x-t graph. This will happen when time t=1s
