Chapter 12 - Temperature and Heat - Check Your Understanding - Page 327: 8

Answer

No . Mercury-in-glass thermometer would not work.

Work Step by Step

Since both liquid mercury and glass have same coefficient of volume expansion , their volume change will be the same . When we change temperature , the mercury will expand with glass so mercury will never rise or fall in the capillary tube of the thermometer.
