Chapter 4 - For Thought and Discussion - Page 67: 10

Answer

The answer is below.

Work Step by Step

When the driver hits the breaks quickly or crashes into something, everything in the car will continue in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. If there are seat belts, there will be the outside force, causing the person to stop in a less abrupt manner. However, without seat belts, the outside force may be the car seat or dash board, which will cause the person to stop abruptly and thus may cause serious injury.
