Work Step by Step
We can differentiate between a wave and an oscillation as follows:
(1) An oscillation is a periodic movement of a particle or a system which can cause a wave. A wave is created by an oscillation either mechanically or electromagnetically.
(2) An oscillation is a phenomenon that is localized to a certain region while a wave is a phenomenon which travels.
(3) An oscillation may or may not conserve the internal energy whereas a wave is created by the emitted energy from an oscillation.
