Answer

VSEPER or Valence shell Electron Repulsion Theory explains both the formation and shape of the molecules having covalent bonds. It considers that a covalent bond is formed when half-filled orbitals in the outer shell of two atoms overlap, so that a pair of electrons, one electron from each atom occupies the overlapped orbital. The direction of overlap is determined by the direction of the two overlapping orbitals.

Work Step by Step

1) molecules approach each other 2) outer shells or orbitals of molecules overlap with each other 3) new orbitals are formed
