Begin by making the parent chain. Always remember to start from the left side of the molecular formula. Add the other molecules which are not H and C (in this example it is only O). Then, add H atoms and make sure that each carbon atom have four bonds. Lastly, check to see if all atoms have the correct number of bonds. Give each O atom two electron pairs to complete the octet. Carbon = 4 bonds Hydrogen = 1 bond Oxygen = 2 bonds
