1) Arrange the atoms next to each other. 2) Count the total number of valence electrons for each molecule (H has 1, C has 4, N has 5, and O has 6). 3) Connect the atoms by adding a single bond each and then add lone pairs. 4) Use lone pairs to create multiple bonds while making sure each atom has a zero formal charge. (Tip: C must have four bonds, N must have three bonds, O must have two bonds).
