The second electron is present in same subshell; however, it experiences more nuclear pull when the first electron has been removed. Hence the second ionization energy is twice as large. If we attempt to remove a third electron, it will consume much more energy as it is present in the second shell and there is more nuclear pull due to fewer electrons.
