Chapter 7 - Molecular Structures - Questions for Review and Thought - Topical Questions - Page 325a: 13b

Answer

Tetrahedral

Work Step by Step

In order to draw a lewis dot structure, first find out the number of valence electrons for each atom. Next, using bonds, keep adding bonds until the number of valence electrons for each atom is 8. Note, in some cases, we have to have atoms with more than 8 valence electrons, for sometimes there is no possible way to make the lewis dot structure without doing so. Also, to find the molecular shape, it is necessary to memorize the list of molecular shapes, which are always based on the central atom of the molecule.
