Chapter 11 - Exercises - Page 524: 3

Answer

The main differences in liquids, solids and gasses are caused due to the inter-molecular forces. Liquids have stronger inter-molecular forces as compared to gasses, hence they have higher density and volume and cannot be compressed. However, liquids have less inter-molecular forces as compared to solids, so they cannot retain their shape and assume the shape of container.
