Chapter 6 - The Periodic Table - 6 Assessment - Page 187: 57

Answer

The number of electrons in a neutral atom depends on the number of protons in that atom. The periodic table is organized by atomic number, which is the number of protons in an atom. Therefore, the periodic table could also be said to be organized by the number of electrons. The periodic table is divided in four blocks, s,p, d, and f, depending on the valence electrons of the atoms of an element. Electron configuration allows us to locate an element in the periodic table because of the connection between the two.
