The etiology was a virus that came to be known as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The disease was seen to affect primarily homosexuals who were IV drug users and Haitians. This lead to the "4-H Club" seeing as the disease affected four groups mainly, Haitians, Homosexuals, Heroin Users, and Hemophiliacs (the virus would be transmitted through blood donations.)
