Answer

b. an inversion

Work Step by Step

A deletion occurs when part of a chromosome detaches and then reattaches onto the sister chromatid or onto the homologous chromosome, or the deleted portion may even disappear from the cell altogether. When a portion of a chromosome breaks off and then reattaches onto a nonhomologous chromosome, this is called a translocation. In the case of nondisjunction, homologous chromosomes do not separate during either meiosis I or meiosis II; this results in some or all of the daughter cells receiving abnormal numbers of chromosomes. Inversion happens when a chromosomal breakage occurs, but then that piece of chromosome reattaches backward onto the same chromosome.
