Chapter 6 - 6.6 - Concept Check - Page 118: 2

Answer

The issue with sterility occurs because the sperm do not develop a viable flagellum. This would be due to the genetic disorder preventing the microtubules from being produced, more specifically, the tubulin protein that drives the flagellum from being produced. The issue in the lungs would occur because of cilia that help mucus move through the lungs. Cilia also move because of tubulin proteins.

Work Step by Step

Any genetic disorder will have some type of symptoms related to the inability to produce the correct type and/or correct amount of proteins. This is because DNA in a person with a genetic disorder contains a mutation/error that causes proteins to be created wrong, or not created at all, or an influx of too much of one protein.
