Answer

Treatment of excessively high blood pressure.

Work Step by Step

Increased sympathetic nervous system activity corresponds to an increase in the blood pressure.Beta receptors are a part of this pathway, and the binding of ligands like epinephrine to the receptor causes the blood pressure to rise. The use of a class of drugs called beta blockers(like atenolol, propranolol, nebivolol) inhibits this pathway and hence can be used to lower the blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
