Answer
parenchyma cells
Work Step by Step
Specialized plant cells called parenchyma cells perform functions such as photosynthesis and storage of nutrients; these cells make up the ground tissue. Parenchyma cells have cell walls that are thin and flexible. In stems and roots, parenchyma stores water, starch, oils, and proteins; in soft stems and leaves, parenchyma tissues called mesophyll, which contain chloroplasts, carry out photosynthesis.
