Bony fishes have a bony skeleton whereas cartilaginous have a skeleton made of cartilage. Neither cartilaginous nor bony fishes have lungs or a four-chambered heart. Only bony fishes have swim bladders. Both these groups, on the other hand, do possess jaws and are considered jawed fishes.
