The ozone layer consists of molecular oxygen comprising three atoms of oxygen. It is present in the upper part of the atmosphere and blocks harmful radiations. CFCs react with ozone and trigger a chain reaction, due to which a single molecule of CFC can cause a lot of damage. Although CFCs have been banned, they can remain in the atmosphere and hence the Ozone layer is not recovered.
