An optimal level of calcium is required to be maintained in the blood. When this level decreases, bones are instructed to release the calcium. However, long term secretion of calcium from bones leads to calcium deficiency disorders like osteoporosis. This deficiency can be overcome by using calcium rich foods or calcium supplements.
