Chapter 28, Animal Systems II - Standardized Test Prep - Page 837: 11

Answer

Muscle contractions move body parts. However, when a muscle contracts, it only moves a body part in one direction. Another muscle is needed to counteract this movement. This other muscle will move the body part in the opposite direction. If body parts were moved with only one muscle, that body part could never be moved in the opposite direction.
