Chapter 12, DNA - 12.2 - The Structure of DNA - 12.2 Assessment - Page 348: 2a

Answer

DNA is replicated by: 1. Helicase 2. DNA polymerase

Work Step by Step

DNA is first unravelled by the enzyme, DNA helicase. It does so by breaking the hydrogen bonds between the base pairs in the 5' to 3' direction. When the two strands are apart, DNA polymerase matches each base pair of each strand with the complementary DNA base pair. When finished, the DNA strands reanneal to produce two copies of identical DNA.
