Chapter 10 - Review Questions - Page 224: 6

Answer

Habitat: Typically rocky surfaces in intertidal regions. Some may reside a great depths. Habits: Chitons feed very close to their home. They feed by scraping the algae off of rocks and then consuming it. Chitons cling onto their "home rocks" with their feet. Occasionally, the chitons will use a specialized head flap to capture and consume small invertebrate prey. When in danger, chitons roll into a ball (much like an armadillo) and will remain this way until the danger has passed.
