Both Fig. 8.11a shows ATP being broken down to move a molecule across a membrane. The ATP breakdown releases the energy driving transport, meaning the transport is active.

The key, as with many questions in this chapter, is to see that ATP releases lots of energy. Follow that and the answer often becomes apparent. Also keep in mind that active transport requires an input of energy-- here it comes from ATP.
