Gametophytes are multicellular haploid plants— there is nothing like this in animals which produce haploid sex cells directly from diploid precursors via meiosis.

Review Fig. 13.6 and see the duration of the (light blue) haploid part of the lifecycle. You can readily tell that there is no analog of the gametophyte in the animal lifecycle.
