Answer
Primary growth in roots and shoots produces the same three tissue layers, but there are important differences: 1) shoots have more complex primary growth with nodes, internodes, and leaves while roots consist of roots and branch roots; 2) the presence of pith (unspecialized parenchyma in the center of the organ) varies between them (present in dicot shoots and monocot roots); the root has some specialized layers (endodermis and pericycle) not found in the shoot.
Work Step by Step
Review Concept 35.3 and make a list of features of roots and of shoots. Compare the list and use items over which shoots and roots differ to construct your answer.
