The thorax and the abdominopelvic cavities are the main cavities of the trunk of the human body. The thorax is separated from the abdomino-pelvic cavity by the diaphragm. The cerebro-spinal cavity is continuos and is separated from the thorax and abdominopelvic cavities by muscles, bones, and membranes of the head, neck, thorax and the dorsum of the abdominopelvic region.

The major body cavities are te thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity. These two cacities are separated by the diaphragm. The brain and spinal cord cavites are continuous and are separated from the oral and abdomino-pelvic cavities by muscles and bones of the head and neck and ribs and muscles of the back of the thorax and abdomen and pelvis; the nasal cavity is separated from the oral cavity mainly by the hard and soft palate, Cavities of the heart are separated by muscle and endocardium ; the pericardial cavity is separated from the mediastinal cavity by the epicardium and plleural cavity is separated from the general thoracic cavity by the outer pleural layer.
